Untitled events keep the museum open late, showcases the “wicked awesome” creatives in Denver, always brings the rock with house DJs, typically involves a cash bar, and generally goes about having one killer art party.

With the untimely death of the Great Gloved One, and the 24-Hour news cycle endlessly covering every detail, it got me thinking…

Yes, the King of Pop was an icon. He was a cultural icon, he was an international icon – but has he ever been a desktop icon? Surely during his heyday, someone somewhere kicked out an MJ icon set.

A cursory Google search resulted in a few cropped versions of photos for use in instant messenger programs, and handful of illustrations, but nothing of real value.

Clearly there was a absence here that needed to be addressed.

So here I am addressing it.

Jorge Colombo drew this week’s cover using Brushes, an application for the iPhone, while standing for an hour outside Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Times Square.

The Brushes application costs $4.99 and allows for painting on the touchscreen using a variety of brushes tracking your fingers. Mr. Colombo loves the app, saying that it

“made it easy for me to sketch without having to carry all my pens and brushes and notepads with me, and I like the fact that I am drawing with a set of tools that anybody can have easily in their pocket.”
